This pub is supported by its centuries-deep roots in Wensleydale.

We both honour and seek to connect you to this beautiful place and its people by curating the very best seasonal food and ales sourced from the Dales and surrounding regions.

We invite you to appreciate the story and share our passion for where your food comes from, to bridge the gap between farm and table, and to help our rural community and the land on which they live thrive.

Locally sourced ingredients will always be on our menu, and our specials will reflect what’s in season.

Exceptional Beef for an Unforgettable Dining Experience.

The Raw Family’s East End Farm, located less than a mile from here, raises pedigree-native and rare breed cows, such as Dexters and Shetlands, who roam and graze the land in and around Castle Bolton. The Raw’s progressive approach to grazing and management of the land benefits the environment and the Red-Listed wading birds in the area. The 100% grass-fed and forage-finished beef is naturally high in Omega-3 and antioxidant vitamins. The natural marbling (healthy intramuscular fat) of cows raised in this way gives our beef incredible flavor, tenderness, texture, and juiciness—your taste buds will thank you.

Generations of the Finest Yorkshire Meat.

We partner with Hammond Butchers, based in the very heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. For generations, the Hammond family has nurtured relationships with farmers throughout the Dales, and slightly beyond, to bring the highest quality meats from Hawes, chicken from Nidderdale, and pork from Thirsk to your plate through our kitchen.

World Famous Cheeses From Pasture to Plate.

In the 12th century, French Cistercian monks from the Roquefort region, who had settled in Wensleydale, started making the now world-famous Wensleydale cheese. We're proud to continue supporting local dairy farmers and cheese makers with our selection of Wensleydale cheeses.

Although our curated cheese selection changes, we frequently feature cheeses from Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes and Curlew Dairy, including their impressive Yordale Wensleydale.

Hand-Made Preserves — That Preserve.

What better to pair with a buttery smooth Wensleydale Cheese than the snap and spice of chutney from Raydale Preserves in Hawes? Born from a need to diversify their farm in the late 1970s, Raydale now sources its ingredients, such as strawberries and rhubarb, from other Yorkshire farms. We're delighted to support another local legend throughout our menus

And as they say themselves:

“As Raydale Preserves has grown we have restored dry stone walls, dry stone barns, developed permissive footpaths and replanted ancient woodland within the valley. We are proud of our heritage and hold our role in the preservation, as well as the development, of our local landscapes and communities close to our heart.”

The Sweetest of Dales Treats.

A herd of Jersey cows on the other side of Dale in Thornton Rust produces the finest quality milk for this most delectable treat from Wensleydale Ice Cream.

Crafted by Gill Harrison, who was born and raised here in Redmire, their ice cream can also be found at their Hardbanks Barn ice-cream parlor — which is well worth a visit.

Grand Beer From
Right Here.

We strive to minimize the mileage of our beer for freshness, environmental considerations, and community support. Yorkshire is abundant with amazing real ales, and you'll find plenty of quality options from our good friends at Wensleydale Brewery in Leyburn. Additionally, we feature staples from the area, such as Yorkshire Dales Brewery in Askrigg, Pennine Brewing Co in Bedale, and Blacksheep and Theakstons in Masham.
